But, for a while, I ran Quicken under an XP Virtual Machine while also running it under Vista x86. I shared the folder that the Quicken data file was in so that both instances of Quicken could see the data. They each saw the data as being under a different drive letter but ran without problem.

MS asserts that there has been no DOS in Windows since Win2K, however, both XP and Vista still have drives named with letters like 'C' drive, 'D' drive etc. I'd say that there's still some DOS, even is Vista someplace. 1- so remove the drive letter if it makes you feel better- didn't know you could do that, eh?

No it will not cause problems in the future unless you set a program to save to a mapped drive letter and for some reason the mapped drive get disconnected.
